Accommodation
There are three main areas of Lima in which to stay [as a
tourist where the situation for rich tourists is relatively
safe, with tourist suitcases, golden rings etc.]:
-- Lima Centro, which boasts hotels in just about every
category imaginable
-- Miraflores
-- and Barranco.
Even more than most Peruvian cities, modern hotels in Lima
tend to be very exclusive and expensive. There are no
campsites [camping], official or otherwise (p.89).
[There are many more hotels and hostels in other Lima
districts. Sometimes when they are cheap the standard is
very poor, or there is a limit of time. The most important
thing for Peruvians in a hotel is TV and not the other
guests. For many companies hotels are just an income and
standard of living is not important for the hotel. Don't
expect you can sleep well when you are in a cheap hotel in
Peru. Loud TV until deep in the night is normal because
people come from poverty and just had a TV at home nothing
more. They don't know about medition or about worth of calm
sleep].
[Telephone dialing code for Lima is 01, international
0051-1].

Hotels in Lima Miraflores,
Barranco and other suburbs [Miraflores district, Barranco
district a.o.]
Many people opt to stay further out of the city in
Miraflores, which is
still close to the seafront as well as home to most of
Lima's nightlife, culture and commercial activity. However,
most hostels here start at around $20 per person and quite a
few hotels go above $200. As a trendy ocean-clifftop suburb
Barranco is more and
more the "it" place for the younger traveler.
Apart from the artist's quarter vibe and the clubs and
restaurants, though, the suburb actually has little to offer
the visitor in the way of attractions and sights of
historical interest. Other suburban options include
San Isidro, a mainly
residential area, but close to some of the main bus
terminals;
San Antonio
which is within walking distance of Miraflores; and
Callao, an oceanside,
older part of Lima, but quite distant from most of the
city's action and attractions (p.90).
